Pound Ridge is a town within Westchester County, New York containing the hamlet of Pound Ridge, the hamlet of Sarles Corners and the hamlet of Scotts Corner.

The area was originally inhabited by the Siwanoy and Kitchawong Indians and the town gets its name from a tribal “pound” which was an enclosure for game. The land was purchased from the Siwanoy by Captain Nathaniel Turner in the 1640s, the town was incorporated by 1788 and the town didn’t declare its official name as Pound Ridge until 1948.

The town remained relatively empty and quiet until an inventor and businessman from New York City, Hiram Halle, came to Pound Ridge and began renovating and reconstructing houses. His community enhancement attracted actors, artists and musicians. One musician attracted to the area was Benny Goodman, who composed the song “Round Ridge” in honor of this blooming community. This architectural heritage has been maintained to date and has provided a strong sense of community and “pride of place”. Through delicate planning, the town has also maintained a great deal of its natural charm and deer, swans, foxes and geese still thrive in the area.

The Town of Pound Ridge is currently governed by Supervisor Gary David Warshauer with Deputy Supervisor Jon Powers and Board Members: Peter J. Falco, Richard B. Lyman, Daniel S. Paschkes, Paul McConville and the Executive Assistant to the Supervisor Marianne Vitelli.

The Town of Pound Ridge is served by the Bedford Central School District and the Katonah-Lewisboro School District. Students in Pound Ridge attend the Pound Ridge Elementary School, the Pound Ridge Middle School or the Pound Ridge High School. The Pound Ridge Library serves the residents of Pound Ridge and its surrounding towns.
