New Castle is a town in Westchester County, New York containing the hamlets of Millwood, Chappaqua and the village of Mount Kisco.

The Mahicanni inhabited the area east of the Mahicanituck (Hudson River) until Nathaniel Turner purchased parts of the land from the Siwanoy chief Ponas Sagamore in 1640. By 1791 the native Sint Sinks, Tankiteke, Sachems Wabetuck and Cahawaney were gone from the area. New Castle was a part of the town of North Castle until April 5, 1791 when New Castle held its first town meeting. The farm, freight and large industries began to grow around New Castle and boosted the population. By the late 19th centuries large industries included Spencer Optical Works and the Bischoff Shoe Company. Throughout the years, New Castle has been able to maintain its early charm, particularly because of its vigorous terrain and the care given by owners, residents and the Town government.

Horace Greeley lived in the Horace Greeley House from 1864-1872, near the center of town. The Horace Greeley House acts as the headquarters for the New Castle Historical Society’s programs, exhibits and research resources. The Horace Greeley house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Horace Greeley was America’s foremost newspaper editor bought land in Chappaqua in 1853.

Currently New Castle is governed by Supervisor Barbara Gerrard with Board Members: Elise Kessler Mottel, John Buckley, Robin Stout and Michael Wolfensohn. The Town of New Castle is served by the Chappaqua Central School District which includes the : Horace Greeley High School, Robert E. Bell Middle School, Seven Bridges Middle School, Douglas Grafflin Elementary School, Roaring Brook Elementary School and Westorchard Elementary School. The mission of the Chappaqua Schools is “to create a community for learning, where students, parents and staff are joined in the pursuit of academic excellence and personal growth in a caring environment.”
