Jefferson Valley is located in Yorktown, New York. Yorktown was named after the Battle of Yorktown near Yorktown, Virginia. The earliest known inhabitants are the Mohegan, Osceola, Amwalk, Kitchawan and Mohansic peoples.
Jefferson Valley is run by Yorktown Supervisor Susan Siegel and Councilmen Nick Bianco, Jim Martorano, Terrence Murphy and Vishnu Patel. Regular meetings of the Town Board are help on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7:00pm, unless there is a holiday.
A huge attraction in Jefferson Valley is the Jefferson Valley Mall. The Jefferson Valley Mall is a two-level regional shopping center with a Macy’s, Sears and over 90 specialty shops including H&M, Ann Taylor Loft, American Eagle Outfitters, Bath & Body Works, Charlotte Russe, Footlocker, Lady Footlocker, Forever 21, Gap/Gap Body, Gap Kids/babyGap, Gymboree, Hollister and more. There is also a 400-seat Food Court. There is also a movie theater in that mall, part of the independent Trademark Cinemas.
The John C. Hart Memorial Library in Yorktown serves the community of Jefferson Valley, located at 1130 Main Street in Shrub Oak. The library has served as a good place to find material and also as a gathering place for children and adults for the last 80 years. The John C. Hart Memorial Library is inside the home of the Hyatt and Hart families and was donated to the town by Catherine M. Dresser in 1917.
Also in nearby Yorktown is Westchester County?s Hilltop Hanover Farm which is a regional education center that offers programs on healthy and sustainable food production. The center researches and teaches skills for small-scale suburban and urban farming techniques and showing sustainable living practices like alternative energy resources. Other points of interest include: the Teatown Lake Reservation, the Turkey Mountain Nature Preserve, the Kitchawan Preserve and the Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park.
