Hewlett Neck is a village with the Town of Hempstead and is included in the Five Towns along with Lawrence, Cedarhurst, Woodmere and Inwood. Forbes magazine ranked Hewlett Neck sixth most affluent neighborhood in America as of January, 2011 with a median household income of $239,000. Hewlett Neck was named after settler George Hewlett and was incorporated in 1927 on a polo field.
Residents of Hewlett Neck attend public school in the Hewlett-Woodmere School District, the George W. Hewlett High School is the only high school in this district. Spectrum, the George W. Hewlett High School’s newspaper won first place of the ,Long Island school newspapers and has a video show for students called “Video Homeroom”. Notable alumni include producer Barbara Gaines (Late Night with David Letterman), Pulitzer Prize winner Louise Glück, news anchor Carolyn Gusoff and Olympic Athlete Jonathan Tiomkin.
Hewlett Neck is made up of mostly married couples living together with the average household size being 3.25 and 155 households as of the census of 2000. Notable residents of Hewlett Neck include the Executive Director of the American Watch Guild Bertram Kalisher. The American Watch Guild was founded in 1998 and is devoted to recognizing fine watch professionals devoted to advancing the prestige of the industry and maintaining standards. The current mayor is Mitchell A. Dix. Bertram Kalisher is also the deputy mayor of Hewlett Neck. The Trustees are Brett Cooper, Bertram Kalisher, Michael Levine and Stuart Troyetsky. The Clerk is Marie Velotti and the Village meetings are held the first Monday of each month.
