Greenburg is a town in the western part of Westchester County containing six villages: Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Hastings-on-Hudson, Irvington and Tarrytown. The unincorporated areas of Greenburg include Fairview, Greenville and Hartsdale.

The township of Greenburg was established in the year 1788, before which it was a part of the Manor of Philipsburgh. The early inhabitants of Greenburg were from Holland and it’s believed the town got its name from its Hollandish descent. The first town hall was the Romer-Van Tassel House, which remained active from 1793 into the early 19th century. The Romer-Van Tassel House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. Other locations on the National Register include the Church of St. Joseph of Arimathea and Odell House. The Odell House served as headquarters of Count de Rochambeau and campsite for the French expeditionary forces under his command from July 6 to August 18, 1781. In 1965 the house was deeded to the New York chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The Town of Greenburg is run by Supervisor Paul Feiner with Council members: Sonja Brown, Diana Juettner, Kevin Morgan and Francis Sheehan. The Town is served by the Greenburh Central School District. The schools include: Highview Elementary School, Richard J. Bailey School, Woodlands Middle School and Woodlands High School. The Greenburgh Public Library serves the Town and features services such as Audio Books & eBooks, Online Practice Tests & Tutorials, Free Online Book Clubs and Story Time for children.

Notable residents of Greenburgh include wrestler “Classy” Freddie Blassie, jazz legends Cab Calloway, photographer Gordon Parks, comedienne Jackie “Moms” Mabley. The Town boasts several programs including the Greenburgh Nature Center, the Theodore D. Young Community Center, eight pools, an interactive kiddie pool, 30 tennis courts, 2 ponds, and an Arts and Culture Committee that offers free monthly programs for people of all ages.
